Radomes

KDT has an exclusive license from Textron Systems to manufacture and distribute Ceraset DI-200 for U.S. Military and Defense Applications. This organopolysilazane resin is used in the manufacture of polyceramic matrix composites. In such composites the matrix has the characteristics of both a polymer (eg. high toughness) as well as those of a ceramic (eg. high thermal stability and hardness). Composites made from DI-200 possess exceptional electronic properties and thermal stability enabling their use in such applications as antenna windows and missile radomes.

Other remarkable features of DI-200 composites are its excellent dielectric properties and very low transmission loss which is very stable over the frequency band of 8-14 GHz.  A broadband tactical missile radome fabricated using a 2DQ/DI-200 composite has shown to be capable of surviving a Mach 4 to mach 6 aerothermal environment.  DI-200 quartz fabric composites have been used to fabricate radomes, antenna windows and other defense products where their excellent physical, electrical, and thermal properties are needed.  DI-200 has also been used to make high temperature syntactic foams with exceptional insulation properties.  The resin is completely fire proof.  Inorganic composites made with it have excellent insulation properties.

Benefits of Using KDT Polysilazanes for Radome Applications:

  • High thermal stability
  • Excellent dielectric properties and low transmission loss
  • Electrical properties stable over broad temperature and frequency range
  • Allows manufacture of light weight, high strength radomes
  • Low coefficient of thermal expansion
  • Ease of fabrication for multi-layered construction-B-stagable for standard lay up construction
