Prepreggable Polymer Resin

KiON Defense Technologies, Inc (KDT) has an exclusive license from Textron to manufacture and sell DI-200 resin for U.S. military and defense applications.  KDT Ceraset DI-200 is a specially designed polysilazane resin that can be “B-Staged” at moderate temperatures.  This allows the manufacture of prepregs that can be subsequently laid up to a desired thickness, fixtured, and cured.  DI-200 can be processed by methods very similar to organic thermoset resins such as epoxies and phenolics.  A variety of reinforcement phases can be used with DI-200 including quartz, carbon, and silicon carbide fiber.

When cured at 250 °C quartz fiber reinforced composites of DI-200 have excellent thermal stability and electrical properties that make it a material of choice for applications such as missile radomes and antenna windows.  Other remarkable features of DI-200 composites are its excellent dielectric properties and very low transmission loss, both of  which are very stable over the frequency range of 8-14 GHz.  A broadband tactical missile radome fabricated using a 2DQ/DI-200 composite has been shown to be capable of surviving a Mach 4 to mach 6 aerothermal environment.  DI-200 quartz fabric composites have been used to fabricate radomes, antenna windows and other defense products where their excellent physical, electrical, and thermal properties are needed.  DI-200 has also been used to make high temperature syntactic foams with exceptional thermal and electrical insulative properties.

Benefits of Using KDT Prepreg Polymer Resin:

  • Light weight and high strength
  • Low dielectric constant
  • STABLE dielectric constant of 3 from ambient temperature to 1098 °C
  • Low coefficient of thermal expansion
  • Ease of fabrication for multi-layered construction-B-stagable for standard lay up construction
