Non-Burning Composites
KiON Defense Technologies, Inc. (KDT) polysilazane resins are very effective matrices for the manufacture of composites that are non-burning. Polysilazanes have the unique ability of undergoing a high temperature condensation process which converts the polymer to a ceramic. Thus, composites fabricated with KDT polysilazanes maintain their mass upon exposure to high temperatures as they form a coherent, strong ceramic “char”. In addition to being non-burning, composites fabricated with KDT polysilazanes also do not generate smoke, have exceptional impact and wear resistant and have excellent chemical resistance. These non-burning composites can be easily fabricated using low-cost pressureless processes.
Benefits of Using KDT Polysilazanes for Non-Burning Composites
- Non-burning, no smoke generation
- Flame Spread <25 (Class A) and smoke generated <450 (Class A) based on ASTM E-84
- Excellent wear and impact resistance
- Chemical resistant
