Fiber Interface

In order to achieve optimum composite properties, the adhesion between the matrix phase and the fiber must be carefully controlled. Sizing of a ceramic fiber chemically modifies the surface of the fiber to improve its compatibility with the matrix phase. KDT polysilazanes are able to provide SiCN debond coatings for ceramic matrix composites. KDT Polysilazane 20 can be applied to a variety of ceramic fibers including carbon, SiC and glass.

Benefits of Using KDT Polysilazanes as Fiber Interface Coatings:

  • Low cure temperature (< 150 °C)
  • High thermal stability
  • High ceramic yield (75 – 95 %)
  • Resins are stable at room temperature and easy to handle
  • Ceramic composition can be controlled by varying processing conditions
  • Exceptional mechanical properties
