Clear Coatings
KDT provides ready-to-use product suitable for application as an ambient curable clear coat. Coatings based on this are typically dry-to-touch in 30 minutes and fully cured in 2 – 5 days. Film thicknesses can be varied from between 5 – 20 µm, depending on application conditions. KDT polysilazane resins adhere extremely well to many substrates including ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys, ceramics, and glass. The product is easily applied by spray, dip, or brush application. Once cured, the polysilazane film provides a protective barrier that prevents corrosion and oxidation of the substrate. In addition, polysilazane-based clear coats have a low surface energy, which creates a hydrophobic surface that is not easily wetted by most substances. As a result, such coatings find application as anti-graffiti coatings and “self-cleaning” coatings wherein dirt and water are easily shed from the coated surface.
