KDT Boroset 60
Resin for C/C Oxidation Inhibition
KDT Boroset 60 is a low viscosity liquid boron-containing polymer which is very useful as an added ingredient to carbon precursor resins in the preparation of carbon-carbon composites. KDT Boroset 60 can be used to inhibit the oxidation of carbon-carbon composites by impregnating a carbon fiber perform with the resin and a carbon precursor, cross-linking the resin and pyrolyzing to convert to ceramic. This polymer is also useful in the preparation of coatings for carbon-carbon composites to protect against oxidation.
Ceramic Coating Resin
KDT Boroset 60 also finds utility as a resin in the formulation of ceramic coatings that are thermally stable to temperatures exceeding 1,000 °C. At high temperatures the boron-containing polymer converts to a composition that is high in glass content. As a result of this conversion, ceramic coatings based of KDT Boroset 60 are free of microcracks due to the sealing behavior of the glassy phases that are formed upon heating. In addition, KDT Boroset 60 coatings, which are rich in boron content, are also capable of “self-healing” surface defects that are formed during use by forming a glass which, at high temperatures, is able to flow and seal microcracks. In addition, KDT Boroset 60 based coatings provide excellent protection against corrosion, abrasion, and wear.
Suggested Applications:
- Carbon/Carbon Oxidation Inhibition
- High Temperature Ceramic Coatings
