Electronics

Polysilazanes are useful materials in a variety of electronics applications.  Since they are precursors to silicon nitride ceramics, they can be used in applications where the low dielectric constant of silicon nitride and high thermal/oxidative stability of silicon nitride ceramic has particular utility.  Additionally, certain pyrolysis conditions lead to amorphous, non-glassy silicon carbonitride ceramics.  Recent work has shown that doped- silicon carbonitride ceramic prepared from polysilazanes is useful as a ceramic semiconductor material.  Crosslinked polysilazanes can also be used in their polymeric form at temperatures of up to 500 oC in applications where their low dielectric constants and low AC loss tangent values are desirable.
