Coatings

KiON Defense Technologies supplies polymer resins to the coatings industry that operate exceptionally well at high temperatures in corrosive environments.  Depending on the application requirement, KDT offers coating resins that can either be cured thermally or under ambient conditions.  KDT polymers have been used successfully as resins for high temperature ceramic coatings and as resins for protective clear coatings.

Ceramic coatings formulated with KDT polymers adhere to a variety of substrates such as ferrous and non-ferrous substrates, metal alloys, etc.  KDT resins are used in a variety of coating applications including ceramic coatings for exhaust systems, engine components, heat exchangers, turbine engines, pistons, and other applications in which thermal stability (> 1,000 °C) and corrosion protection are required.  Coatings formulated with KDT polymer coating resin are also easily applied by standard spray, dip, or brush techniques.  These coatings are much more convenient to apply compared to conventional high temperature ceramic coatings that are applied by plasma spray, CVD, thermal spray, etc.

KDT also provides polymer resins that can be formulated into clear, corrosion-resistant coatings.  The coatings are cured under ambient conditions and the resulting films are very thin (approximately 5-10 µm) and possess low surface energies making their surfaces hydrophobic.  Because of this low surface energy these coatings are used as anti-graffiti coatings.

KDT offers technical assistance on formulating with all of its resins and provides starting point formulations for different applications.
