Structural Ceramics

Structural ceramic materials find application in a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive, etc.  Most often they are used because of their light weight, high temperature stability, and ability to resist deformation at high temperature.  As the name implies, structural ceramics are used to carry the load in weight bearing applications.  These ceramics are typically silicon carbide or silicon nitride based because of their strength and high thermal stability of these ceramics.  KiON Defense Technologies, Inc. (KDT) offers a number of polymer resins that are precursors to silicon carbide and silicon nitride.  The polymers allow for easy fabrication of ceramic components at a cost-effective basis while maintaining exceptional thermal and mechanical properties.
